Ukaona Sisi Nea Vachiuya

In trying to illustrate the collaborative response back home, “Nea”* sang a song that was often performed when she engaged in HIV service work in her homeland.  This song harkens back to the songs originally sung during her country’s freedom struggle.  The song is a covenant or agreement between the choir and its audience, and signifies that as a people, whether giving or receiving the funds, they all play a role in HIV collective care.  “Ukaona sisi Nea vachiuya” also speaks to how Nea experienced her homeland HIV work as family work, or collective, reciprocal caring, a common theme for the Narrators who had professional HIV work histories in their homelands prior to migrating to Canada.
